Boketshu 1er

For three years, BOKETSHU 1ER and his band where the residents of Chez Brigitte, a small, chaotic and informal Congolese bar in Brussels (erroneously named La Nouvelle Cité by some people), in which the group played very near to the dancefloor. For those blessed with the chance of experiencing it, La Nouvelle Cité will remain a mystical and magical place that represented the real underground sound of the city and that – each Friday between 3 and 7am – hosted the best band in the world: that of Boketshu and his musicians, and that would keep on doing it, if it didn’t burn down in the Summer of 2009.
In his irresistible concerts, Boketshu plays Congolese music invented from rumba and especially from soukous of the 1960’s and 70’s (Franco, Zaiko Langa Langa, Afrisa International, Orchestre Kiam...), together with beautiful solos of electric guitar and powerful rhythms.
Boketshu 1er, founding member and leader of the Swede Swede (historical band formed in Kinshasa in 1985) succeeded in delivering his mix of traditional and modern music to Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Gabon, Senegal, as well as to London, Paris, Germany, and the Netherlands. The concert of Boketshu 1er, for the first time in Italy, is the last wake of sounds and of imaginary of Netmage 2010.
